Description

Treasury Investments: Balancing Liquidity, Security and Return on Cash Surpluses

Investing cash surpluses without weakening liquidity or exposing the company to poorly measured risk

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The company generates surpluses, yet they sit idle in the current account. No one has settled the trade-off between immediate availability and return, and bank proposals arrive without a shared framework for assessing them. The treasurer signs up to instruments whose counterparty risk is only partly understood, while management discovers the financial result at year-end.

This one-day programme provides a decision-making method. Participants segment their cash according to the time horizon over which it will be needed, then compare families of instruments on liquidity, return and risk. They build a written investment policy and the delegation rules that allow fast decisions while maintaining a clear audit trail.

Learning objectives

  • Segment company cash according to the availability horizon of the funds
  • Compare families of investment instruments on liquidity and risk
  • Assess the counterparty risk attached to a product proposed by your bank
  • Draft an investment policy together with delegation rules
  • Monitor investment performance and report on it to management

What makes this programme different

Each participant segments their own cash position before selecting any instrument
Bank proposals brought in by participants are examined line by line
An investment policy template is drafted during the session and taken away by each participant
