Description

Supplementary Retirement Savings: Structuring Contributions and Planning Payouts

Advise on supplementary retirement savings schemes sub-account by sub-account

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A supplementary retirement savings scheme brings together sums of very different origins within a single wrapper. Voluntary member contributions, employer end-of-service funding and mandatory contributions do not follow the same rules when the time comes to draw the money, which makes sound advice impossible without clear tracking of each sub-account.

This one-day programme covers the architecture of the schemes available to companies and individuals in the UAE, the trade-offs on contribution levels and vesting at entry, and the treatment of lump-sum or phased income payouts at exit. The seven hours differ from a general overview of financial savings by focusing on early-withdrawal situations and on the transfer of the plan to beneficiaries.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the originating sub-account of each sum held within a supplementary retirement savings scheme
  • Calculate the contribution ceilings and vesting rules applicable to voluntary contributions
  • Weigh up gross versus net-funded contributions according to the member's situation
  • Determine the treatment of a lump-sum or income payout according to the origin of the sums
  • Handle early-withdrawal situations and their financial consequences

What makes this programme different

Each sub-account is tracked from entry to exit on a summary table built during the session
The contribution trade-off at entry is quantified according to the member's residence and marginal tax exposure
The consequences of the member's death on the plan are addressed explicitly
