Description

Project Lessons Learned: Preparing, Facilitating and Embedding the Findings

Turning the end of a project into reusable lessons rather than a closure meeting with no follow-up

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Projects follow one another and the same difficulties keep reappearing. The lessons learned review is postponed for lack of time, or turns into a search for who is to blame. The minutes produced stay in a shared folder and influence neither the scoping of the next project nor the team's day-to-day practices.

This three-hour virtual session provides a practical method for project lessons learned. Participants learn how to prepare the collection of facts, facilitate a session focused on root causes, and convert findings into actions with a named owner and a deadline.

Learning objectives

  • Select the timing and format of the lessons learned review best suited to the project
  • Gather facts and variances ahead of the group session
  • Facilitate a session focused on causes rather than individuals
  • Formulate improvement actions with a named owner and a deadline
  • Organise knowledge capture so that it feeds the scoping of future projects

What makes this programme different

A lessons learned session is facilitated on a real project brought by the group
Findings are converted into actions with a named owner and a deadline
A reusable knowledge capture template is built during the session
