Description

AI Tools: Identifying Categories, Testing Features and Making the Right Choice

Understand what each category of tool can actually do before installing it on your workstation

  • 0.14 days — 1 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Public sector staff face a market in which tool names change every month and promises all sound alike. Some install an assistant on their workstation without realising that an equivalent feature already exists in the office software used by their department. Others give up entirely because they cannot tell what the tool really produces.

This one-hour module brings order to the market. Participants learn to distinguish the main families of tools, test their responses to an identical request and match everyday tasks to the category of tool best suited to them.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish the main families of artificial intelligence tools
  • Identify AI features already available in departmental software
  • Explain why generative tools produce errors
  • Compare the responses of two tools to the same request
  • Match a work task to the appropriate category of tool

What makes this programme different

Tools are compared live using a request brought by participants
AI features already paid for within existing software are mapped out
The selection grid combines the task, the data handled and its sensitivity level

Programme

1The main families of tools

Telling apart what looks alike

  • Conversational assistants, augmented search and content generation tools
  • Transcription, summarising and automatic translation
  • AI features embedded in departmental office software
  • Difference between consumer tools and solutions deployed by the entity

2What the tool can and cannot do

Reading a feature without being impressed by it

  • Nature of the responses produced and the origin of errors
  • Limitations regarding figures, references and regulatory texts
  • Effect of how the request is phrased on the result
  • Systematic verification before reusing any content

3Choosing the tool to suit the task

Matching need and functionality

  • Reading grid: task, data handled and sensitivity level
  • Questions to ask before using a tool with departmental data
  • Retention and traceability of exchanges
  • Guidance on reporting a use case to your line management

Who is it for

Public sector staff and managers in federal, emirate-level or healthcare entities who are discovering artificial intelligence tools in their working environment.
