Description
Digital Technical Foundations: Understand, Specify and Work with Technical Teams
Two days to understand what happens behind a website and engage with developers as an equal
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Marketing raises requests that technical teams consider unfeasible and receives answers it cannot weigh up. Timelines stretch out, quotations come as a surprise and campaigns depend on development work that is not moving forward. The vocabulary needed to ask the right questions is missing.
These 14 hours explain how a website and its tools actually work. Participants follow the journey of a page from the domain name through to display, read the source code of a page, understand the role of a content management system and of an application programming interface, then draft a technical request that can genuinely be used.
Learning objectives
- Describe the journey of a web page from request to display
- Read the source code of a page and identify its components
- Distinguish the roles of the content management system, the server and the database
- Assess the technical implications of a marketing request
- Draft a technical request that a developer can work from
