A new works project is rarely carried out in a plant that has been shut down. Contractors must operate alongside production that keeps running, the schedule depends on several trades, and handover can easily turn into an endless snag list.

Four days to take on the site supervisor role in an industrial environment: preparing the works and their permits, organising concurrent activities, coordinating contractors as work progresses, monitoring cost and schedule, then carrying out handover and transferring the asset to operations.

1Preparing the works

Everything that is decided before the first intervention

  • Review the technical file and identify points that are still open
  • Identify site access and operating constraints
  • Define the phasing and the master schedule
  • Compile the site file and obtain the required permits

2Organising concurrent activities and safety

Working together without incidents

  • Identify risks arising from interference between activities
  • Prepare and conduct the joint site inspection
  • Draft the site safety plan and keep it live throughout the works
  • Verify competencies, certificates and work permits

3Coordinating contractors

Progress is set by the interfaces

  • Run the site meeting and issue the minutes
  • Manage interfaces between trades
  • Handle disruptions and reschedule without losing the completion date
  • Keep production and internal stakeholders informed

4Controlling costs and changes

Anything that changes must be priced and traced

  • Track physical and financial progress
  • Assess a variation request for additional works
  • Check progress statements and interim invoices
  • Decide between a useful change and scope creep

5Handover and close-out

Leaving the site cleanly

  • Organise testing and commissioning
  • Conduct handover and record outstanding items
  • Drive the closure of snags within the agreed timeframe
  • Collect the as-built documentation and transfer to operations

Before the programme

Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
