Description

Legal Aspects of Sustainability Reporting: Qualifying, Structuring and Securing Disclosure

Treating sustainability reporting as a legal obligation rather than a communication exercise

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Expert
  • Up to 6 participants

Sustainability reporting brings non-financial information within the scope of formal disclosure duties. What used to be corporate narrative becomes enforceable content, verified by an independent provider and open to challenge by stakeholders. Legal departments must draw the consequences for internal governance and for contracts concluded with business partners.

This one-day programme addresses sustainability reporting from the in-house counsel's standpoint: determining the scope of application, characterising the information owed, organising data collection and understanding the liability regimes attached to publication.

Learning objectives

  • Determine whether an entity falls within the scope of sustainability reporting requirements
  • Characterise from a legal standpoint the information to be disclosed and the level of assurance required
  • Organise internal governance for the collection and validation of information
  • Align sustainability reporting with supply chain due diligence duties and other disclosure obligations
  • Identify the liability risks attached to published sustainability information

What makes this programme different

The subject is addressed from the legal practitioner's standpoint rather than that of the reporting specialist
The clauses to be revised in supplier contracts are identified and drafted during the session
A map of dispute risks linked to published information is built by the group
