Description

Workplace Risk Assessment: Defining Work Units, Rating Risks and Taking Action

Turning the risk assessment register into a living prevention tool rather than a file reopened after an incident

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The risk assessment register exists but it dates back several years. The work units no longer match the way the organisation actually operates. Psychosocial risks appear as a single line with no real analysis. The action plan has no owner and updates always come after an inspection or after an incident.

These two days place the risk assessment register back at the centre of prevention. Participants learn how to define work units, run the assessment with the employees concerned, rate risks against criteria that hold up to scrutiny and build an action plan that is monitored over time. The role of employee representatives is clarified at every stage, in line with UAE occupational health and safety requirements and ISO 45001 principles.

Learning objectives

  • Define work units in line with how the organisation actually operates
  • Conduct the risk assessment with the employees concerned
  • Build and apply a rating scale that is consistent across work units
  • Formalise an action plan with named owners and deadlines
  • Address psychosocial risks and situations of combined exposure
  • Organise the updating of the register and its review by the relevant committees

What makes this programme different

A rating scale is built and then tested on two very different work units
Risk identification starts from descriptions of real activity rather than generic checklists
The resulting action plan distinguishes what eliminates a risk from what merely compensates for it
