Description
AI and Lawyer Liability: Identifying Risks, Setting Rules and Ensuring Traceability
Using an artificial intelligence assistant on a client matter without exposing the firm or client confidentiality
- 0.43 days — 3 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
A draft document produced by an artificial intelligence assistant sometimes contains a citation that does not exist. The lawyer who signs it answers for it. Client confidentiality is immediately at stake as soon as a case document is uploaded to a tool hosted elsewhere, and the client relationship requires transparency about what was done and with which tool.
This short virtual format addresses the responsibility of the lawyer who uses such tools. In three hours, participants identify the risks specific to their practice, establish usage rules within the firm and organise the traceability of work carried out with the support of an assistant.
Learning objectives
- Identify the professional conduct risks associated with using a generative assistant
- Verify the sources and citations produced by a generative tool
- Protect client confidentiality when using an external tool
- Inform the client of how these tools are used on their matter
- Draft a usage policy applicable across the firm
