Description
Collateral Management: Calling Margin, Valuing and Securing Collateral
Master the entire collateral chain, from position valuation through to the settlement of collateral movements
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
Collateral management has become a profession in its own right. Margin calls are computed daily on positions valued from several price sources, master agreements set eligibility and haircut rules specific to each counterparty, and an unresolved dispute ties up assets. Back and middle office teams often discover these mechanics only when a disagreement arises.
This short format covers the full chain. Participants follow collateral from the master agreement through to the settlement of movements, learn how to calculate and then challenge a margin call, and identify the control points that prevent disputes and delivery failures.
Learning objectives
- Position the role of collateral in mitigating counterparty risk
- Read the collateral clauses of a master agreement
- Calculate a margin call from the valuation of positions
- Apply eligibility and haircut rules to the assets delivered
- Handle a margin call dispute through to resolution
- Organise the daily controls across the collateral chain
