Description

Bond Markets: Pricing Securities, Measuring Risk and Rebalancing

Connect every market commentary to the calculation that explains the price of the securities you hold

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Team members monitor bond positions without being able to rebuild a price. They see a yield rise and a valuation fall without being able to quantify the size of the move. Terms such as sensitivity, duration and credit spread circulate in market commentary without ever being linked to a calculation. Decisions are then taken on the sole strength of the commentary received.

These two days rebuild bond reasoning from the ground up. Participants price a fixed-rate bond, measure a portfolio's sensitivity to a change in yields, read a yield curve and a credit spread, then break down the main structures issued on the market.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the contractual features of a bond issue
  • Price a fixed-rate bond by discounting its cash flows
  • Calculate and interpret the sensitivity and duration of a security
  • Read a yield curve and draw positioning conclusions from it
  • Analyse a credit spread and its evolution
  • Distinguish the main bond structures and the risks specific to each

What makes this programme different

Every concept is verified through a calculation reworked by participants themselves
Market moves discussed in commentary are linked to the price of the securities concerned
Floating-rate and index-linked structures are broken down cash flow by cash flow
