Description

AML/CFT: Conducting KYC on Individual Clients, Verifying and Documenting Controls

Conduct a compliant onboarding process and build a client file that withstands scrutiny

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Client onboarding is often carried out remotely and under commercial time pressure. Documents are collected without being genuinely verified, the source of funds is not evidenced and the client profile is never refreshed afterwards. When an unusual transaction occurs, the file neither explains it nor demonstrates the due diligence actually performed.

Three hours to work through the KYC process for an individual client from end to end: identification, verification, client knowledge, risk classification and the corresponding level of due diligence. The session also covers ongoing file updates and the traceability of the checks carried out.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the information to be collected at onboarding
  • Verify client identity according to the situation encountered
  • Evidence the source of funds and the purpose of the business relationship
  • Assign the client a reasoned risk rating
  • Adapt due diligence measures to the risk rating applied
  • Document due diligence so it can be produced during a control review

What makes this programme different

The KYC file is built document by document using realistic cases
Remote onboarding is addressed together with its weak points
A client risk rating grid is built and then tested during the session
