Description

VBA for Finance: Automating Excel Processes and Building Reliable Calculation Tools

Build robust Excel tools in VBA for repetitive financial processing tasks

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The financial calculation file has grown through successive additions. Formulas stretch across columns that nobody reviews any more. Every monthly update requires manual handling and an error can easily go unnoticed. The macro recorder has produced unreadable code that breaks as soon as the workbook structure changes.

These two days take you from improvisation to a tool you fully control. You write structured VBA procedures and functions. You work with workbooks and ranges without depending on the active selection. You build reusable financial calculation functions. And you finally handle errors and document your code so that a colleague can take it over.

Learning objectives

  • Structure a VBA project into reusable procedures and functions
  • Work with workbooks, worksheets and ranges without relying on the active selection
  • Write custom financial calculation functions callable from Excel
  • Process large data volumes using loops and in-memory arrays
  • Handle run-time errors and document the code delivered

What makes this programme different

Rework and rewrite a recorded macro into structured code
Development of a reusable library of financial functions
Processing of a large file with measurement of the time saved
