Description

Power BI Fundamentals: Connect, Model and Visualise Your Data

Connect your sources, model your data and publish a Power BI report refreshed every month

  • 3 days — 21 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Producing the monthly report often takes several days: extracts to rework, copies moved between workbooks, formulas that break as soon as a column shifts position. Figures end up differing from one department to another and the discussion turns to the data rather than the decisions to be taken.

Three days to build a complete Power BI report, from connecting to sources through to publication and scheduled refresh. Participants work on datasets close to their own business extracts.

Learning objectives

  • Connect Power BI to the organisation's various data sources
  • Transform and clean data in the query editor
  • Build a relational model that produces accurate totals
  • Write the most commonly used calculation measures
  • Publish a report and schedule its refresh

What makes this programme different

The datasets used replicate genuine business extracts
A complete report is built from source file through to publication
The most frequent modelling errors are diagnosed in workshop format

Programme

1Connecting and Preparing Data

Clean before you visualise

  • Connect to a file, a database or an online service
  • Clean and transform data in the query editor
