Description

PowerPoint: Standardise Layouts, Build and Roll Out a Template

Three hours to build a presentation template that holds its layout without slide-by-slide rework

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The logo shifts from one slide to the next, titles are never at the same height and fonts have been changed by hand all over the deck. Every time the brand guidelines evolve, the presentation has to be reworked screen by screen. More time goes into formatting than into content.

These 3 hours are intended for users who already build their own presentations. Participants understand how inheritance works between the slide master and its layouts, set fonts, colours and fixed elements, create layouts that match the content they actually produce, then apply their template to an existing presentation.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish the slide master from the layouts derived from it
  • Edit a slide master to apply a layout across an entire presentation
  • Create layouts suited to the content actually produced
  • Embed colours, fonts and brand elements into a template
  • Apply a template to an existing presentation and correct discrepancies

What makes this programme different

A complete template built during the session and taken away at the end of the programme
Reworking an existing presentation to realign it with that template
Layouts designed from the slides participants genuinely produce

Programme

1How the Slide Master Works

One central setting rather than a hundred manual fixes

  • The role of the slide master and the role of layouts
  • Inheritance between the master and its associated layouts
  • Placeholders versus text boxes added freely
  • Spotting elements modified outside the master

2Building the Template

Layouts that genuinely serve a purpose

  • Setting fonts and the colour scheme
  • Position of the logo, slide numbering and footer
  • Title, content and comparison layouts
  • Placeholders for images and tables
  • Slide size and projection constraints

3Roll-Out and Maintenance

Getting the template adopted

  • Saving the file as a template
  • Sharing it with the team and handling later updates
  • Reworking an existing presentation onto the new template
  • Deleting unused layouts
  • Legibility checks before distribution
