Description

Word — Word Processing for Self-Taught Users: Correcting Habits and Saving Time

Replace empty lines and strings of spaces with the tools that genuinely hold a layout together

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Word processing was learned alone. The document looks acceptable, but it is built on workarounds: empty lines to force a new page, approximate tab stops to align text, formatting reapplied by hand on every heading. As soon as the text grows longer or a colleague edits the file, everything shifts.

This 7-hour day targets the costly habits picked up without training. Participants identify what actually produces their layout, adopt the appropriate styles, tab stops and breaks, then discover the functions that remove manual rework. The programme is adjusted using the documents brought by the group.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the actions within a document that produce an unstable layout
  • Replace manual formatting with paragraph and character styles
  • Use tab stops, indents and breaks instead of empty lines and spaces
  • Create a hierarchical numbered list that updates automatically
  • Save time with find and replace and reusable building blocks
  • Diagnose and repair a received document whose layout shifts

What makes this programme different

Participants' own documents are diagnosed within the first hour of the day
Each costly habit is replaced by the correct action, then compared in completion time
A deliberately damaged document serves as a repair exercise at the end of the day
