Description

Responsible Content: Verifying Sources, Writing Without Stereotypes and Ensuring Accessibility

One day to produce content whose sources, images and wording you can stand behind

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Content production keeps accelerating and verification is the first thing to be dropped: a figure reused without tracing it back to its source, a stock photo that reinforces a stereotype, a testimonial used without clear consent, a text that part of the audience simply cannot read. Every one of these lapses is visible and rebounds on the organisation that published it.

This 7-hour day builds practical production reflexes: verifying and citing sources, selecting images and representations, obtaining consent from people filmed or quoted, writing inclusively without jargon and taking accessibility into account. Participants apply a review checklist to their own content.

Learning objectives

  • Verify a data point by tracing it back to its primary source before publication
  • Cite sources within content intended for a general audience
  • Select images and representations free from stereotypes
  • Obtain and retain consent from people quoted, photographed or filmed
  • Write text that is readable and accessible to people with disabilities
  • Apply a responsible review checklist to your own output
