Description

Social and Environmental Accounting: Comparing Models, Selecting and Deploying

Understand what social and environmental accounting models actually measure

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Requests for non-financial information are multiplying and finance departments are discovering that there are several ways of accounting for the social and environmental effects of an activity. Some models assign a monetary value to impacts, others track liabilities to be restored, and others simply place physical indicators side by side. The choice commits the organisation over the long term.

This one-day programme presents the main existing models, the assumptions on which they rest and their practical consequences for data collection and reporting. Each participant leaves with clear selection criteria and an initial reporting template that can be applied to their own organisation.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish the main families of social and environmental accounting models
  • Identify the assumptions underpinning each model
  • Assess the data required to implement a given model
  • Select a model consistent with the organisation's commitments and resources
  • Build an initial template for reporting the results

What makes this programme different

Two models are applied to the same company case study so results can be compared
Actual data availability is assessed before any model is selected
Each participant leaves with a reporting template ready to be completed
