Description
Profit Centre Management: Reading Your P&L, Driving Margin and Deciding
Take on profit centre responsibility and deliver your results without a finance background
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Taking charge of a profit centre changes the nature of the job: it is no longer only about leading a team but about being answerable for a result. Many managers receive a budget and reports built by others, without knowing which levers genuinely affect margin or which decisions fall within their remit.
These two days provide an operational reading of the profit and loss account: how costs build up, margin structure, volume effect and price effect. Participants learn to build their budget, track a small number of genuinely useful indicators and prepare the trade-offs they will present to their leadership.
Learning objectives
- Read the profit and loss account of your profit centre and identify sensitive line items
- Distinguish fixed from variable costs and calculate a break-even point
- Build an annual budget and translate it into monthly targets
- Select the performance indicators that matter for your activity and present them clearly
- Analyse a variance between plan and actuals and decide on a corrective plan
