Description

Mind Mapping: Structure Ideas, Map and Share Your Projects

Replace endless lists with maps that make the structure of a subject visible

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Linear notes flatten the links between ideas. On a complex subject, a bullet list hides what matters behind what is secondary and makes gaps impossible to spot. The consequences are familiar: scoping meetings that go round in circles, minutes nobody can read and projects on which no one holds the overall view.

Two days to build maps that are genuinely useful: capturing ideas in meetings, framing a project, preparing a presentation or structuring a document. The work begins by hand and then moves to mapping software so that you can produce maps you can share.

Learning objectives

  • Build a readable mind map from a complex subject
  • Select the keywords and branches that carry the meaning
  • Use a map to prepare a meeting or a written document
  • Produce and share a map using dedicated software
  • Convert a map into an action plan or a drafted document

What makes this programme different

Maps produced on the real subjects brought by participants
Progression from the hand-drawn map to the shareable digital map
Four professional use cases worked on separately

Programme

1The rules of a readable map

Few words, much meaning

  • Setting the central subject and the main branches
  • Choosing keywords rather than sentences
  • Creating hierarchy through levels and colours
  • Using images and icons sparingly
  • Identifying the mistakes that make a map unreadable

2Mapping to understand

Structuring a complex subject

  • Framing a project and its components
  • Analysing a problem and its root causes
  • Comparing several options on a single map
  • Spotting blank areas and missing information

3Mapping to produce

From the map to the deliverable

  • Taking notes in meetings in map form
  • Preparing the outline of a document or a presentation
  • Turning a map into a dated action plan
  • Moving from the map to finished text

4Digital maps and sharing

Working together

  • Discovering the common features of mapping software
  • Creating and organising a digital map
  • Inserting links, files and comments
  • Exporting to a document or a presentation
