Description

Digital Storytelling: Building a Narrative, Owning It and Sharing It

Turn a corporate message into a narrative that holds attention across digital channels

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Posts follow one another and all look alike: an institutional tone, arguments stacked one on top of the other and an audience that drops off after the first few lines. Communication teams have genuine material to work with, yet they struggle to shape it into a narrative that holds up over time and travels from one format to another.

One day to learn how to spot the stories worth telling inside the organisation, structure them around a clear narrative arc and adapt them to the short formats of digital channels. Each participant leaves with a written narrative, adapted for two channels.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the narrative material available within the organisation
  • Build a narrative arc with a character, a challenge and a resolution
  • Adapt the same narrative to the format constraints of each channel
  • Write an opening line that makes people want to read on
  • Assess the reach of a narrative based on observed reactions

What makes this programme different

Each participant arrives with a real subject from their organisation and leaves with the narrative written
The same narrative is adapted into a short and a long version during the session
Texts produced are read aloud and then reworked by the group

Programme

Spotting what deserves to be told

2Structuring the Narrative

Building an arc that holds to the end

  • Creating tension and then a resolution
  • Writing an opening line that launches the narrative
  • Choosing the ending and the call to action

3Adapting and Sharing

Tailoring the narrative to each format
