Description

Supplier Selection: Assessing Risk, Comparing Offers and Contracting

Selecting a supplier on criteria that are actually upheld rather than on headline price and commercial rapport

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The cheapest supplier sometimes turns out to be the most expensive. Supply disruption, non-conformity, a labour breach at a subcontractor: risk materialises after signature and travels back up to the buying organisation. Selection criteria often remain implicit and the decision is made on the strength of the relationship built with a sales representative.

This short-format programme structures the supplier selection process. It teaches participants to formalise weighted criteria, to conduct a risk assessment covering social and environmental dimensions, and to translate expected commitments into the contract.

Learning objectives

  • Formalise weighted selection criteria aligned with the criticality of the purchase
  • Conduct a supplier evaluation that goes beyond the price proposal
  • Assess the financial, social and environmental risks carried by a supplier
  • Compare heterogeneous offers on a common basis
  • Translate expected commitments into the contract and into ongoing relationship management

What makes this programme different

A weighted selection grid is built and then tested on a real purchase
Total cost of ownership is calculated in session against the headline purchase price
Due diligence obligations across the subcontracting chain are built into the grid
