Description

Accounting Team Leader: Organising, Securing and Leading Your Team

Moving from producing the accounts to leading a team and managing a close calendar

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The strongest technician is promoted to team leader and discovers an entirely different role: allocating workload, holding a close calendar, responding to auditors and balancing urgency against reliability. Production reflexes are no longer enough, and the first months are often spent doing personally what the team should be handling.

This three-hour session addresses taking up the role: diagnosing the existing organisation, allocating the work, setting up control points and adopting the right posture with the team and with management. Participants build the plan for their first weeks.

Learning objectives

  • Produce a diagnosis of the accounting organisation you have inherited
  • Allocate the work and build a close calendar that can realistically be held
  • Set up control points on sensitive accounts
  • Conduct a performance correction discussion with a team member
  • Report on accounting work to management and to auditors

What makes this programme different

A role take-up plan drafted during the session
A close calendar template with milestones and named owners
Supervision role-plays specific to an accounting environment

Programme

Holding the calendar without doing everything yourself

  • Build the close calendar and its milestones
  • Delegate a task while specifying the level of control expected
  • Introduce periodic account reviews
  • Document procedures to cover absences safely

3Hold your position as team leader

With the team and with management

  • Set out your operating framework in the first few weeks
  • Conduct a corrective discussion about a repeated error
