Description

IFRS 5: Identifying Assets Held for Sale, Measurement and Presentation

Classify an asset or a business undergoing disposal and present discontinued operations correctly

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A disposal announced during the financial year disrupts the presentation of consolidated accounts. Teams hesitate over the classification date, the perimeter to isolate and the treatment of depreciation. A misjudgement flows through to reported profit and to published comparatives, leading to costly corrections at the following close.

This three-hour session works through IFRS 5 from the classification criteria to the disclosures required in the notes. Participants apply the measurement and presentation rules to a fixed-asset disposal case and then to the exit of an entire business line.

Learning objectives

  • Verify the criteria for classification as an asset held for sale
  • Distinguish a single asset from a disposal group
  • Measure the assets concerned and cease depreciation
  • Present a discontinued operation in the consolidated income statement
  • Prepare the disclosures required in the notes on disposals in progress

What makes this programme different
