Description
IFRS 16: Identifying Leases, Measuring the Liability and Accounting Treatment
Bring onto the balance sheet lease commitments that were previously recognised as simple expenses
- 0.43 days — 3 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
Identifying the population of leases is the first hurdle. Property leases, vehicles and service contracts that contain a lease are scattered across several departments. Then come the lease term to be retained where renewal options exist, and the discount rate that must be justified to the auditor.
This short virtual format covers the essential mechanics of IFRS 16 for practitioners already in post. In three hours, participants learn to identify what constitutes a lease, determine the term and the rate to apply, measure the liability and the right-of-use asset, and deal with subsequent remeasurements.
Learning objectives
- Identify the contracts that fall within the scope of the standard
- Determine the lease term where renewal options exist
- Justify the discount rate used to measure the liability
- Account for the lease liability and the right-of-use asset
- Deal with remeasurements and lease modifications
