Description

Consolidation of Accounts: Defining the Scope | Adjusting and Consolidating

Understand how the accounts of several companies become one single set of financial statements

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

As soon as a group includes several companies, individual accounts no longer describe economic reality. Intragroup transactions inflate the figures, investments appear twice and the reading becomes misleading. Accounting teams receive reporting packages to complete without always seeing what they are used for.

A short format to establish the key reference points of consolidation. You define a consolidation scope based on the control exercised. You apply the three consolidation methods. You carry out the most common adjustments and eliminations through to the presentation of the group financial statements.

Learning objectives

  • Define the consolidation scope based on the control exercised
  • Distinguish the three consolidation methods and their effects
  • Carry out the usual alignment adjustments
  • Eliminate reciprocal transactions between group companies
  • Present a consolidated statement of financial position and income statement

What makes this programme different

A three-company group case is handled from scope definition through to consolidated accounts
Each adjustment is recorded as a journal entry then carried into the reporting package
The terminology used is linked to that of the packages circulated to subsidiaries
