Description

Professional Agility: Embracing Change, Deciding Quickly and Adjusting Your Methods

Keep delivering when priorities shift and the working framework changes every quarter

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A reorganisation, then a new tool, then priorities revised mid-quarter: the framework changes faster than working habits. Some people adjust and move forward. Others exhaust themselves waiting for a return to normal that never comes. Flexibility is not an innate quality: it rests on working reflexes that can be trained.

Two days to identify your own resistance to change, decide with incomplete information, reorganise your work when priorities move and preserve a stable foundation. Each participant works on two changes genuinely under way in their role.

Learning objectives

  • Identify your habitual reactions to an imposed change
  • Distinguish what is imposed from what remains within your control
  • Decide and act with incomplete information
  • Reorganise your work plan when priorities change mid-course
  • Maintain the support points that allow you to sustain effort over time

What makes this programme different

Work carried out on two changes genuinely under way in participants' roles
Decision-making exercises under time pressure and with partial information
A written personal response plan for the following three months

Programme

1Your Reactions to Change

Understanding what holds you back

  • The stages people go through when a change is imposed
  • Your anchor points: habits, tools and professional reference points
  • What falls under your control, your influence or neither
  • The cost of waiting for a return to normal

2Deciding on Shifting Ground

Moving forward without all the information

  • Distinguishing reversible decisions from committing decisions
  • Setting the level of information sufficient to decide
  • Testing on a small scale before rolling out
  • Owning and correcting a decision taken too early

3Reorganising Your Work Quickly

When priorities change mid-week

  • Reviewing your commitments and identifying what has to go
  • Renegotiating a deadline or a scope without damaging the relationship
  • Starting again from a simple plan rather than patching up the old one
  • Informing stakeholders of the change of direction

4Sustaining Effort Over Time

Flexible does not mean limitless

  • Identifying your stable foundation: rhythm, method and limits
  • Spotting signs of saturation in yourself and in the team
  • Articulating to your management what cannot be absorbed
  • Maintaining your skills to stay mobile
