Description

Technical Writing: Clarify, Structure and Be Understood by Everyone

Turn a technical note into a document understood on the first reading by non-specialist readers

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

An accurate report can still go unread. Jargon, unexplained acronyms and over-long sentences force the reader to go back over the text, then give up altogether. Decisions stall, the same questions keep coming back, and the writer's expertise remains invisible to the very people who should benefit from it.

One day to learn how to define your reader, prioritise information and rewrite your own documents. You work on your real texts and leave with rewriting techniques you can apply the very next day.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the actual level of knowledge of the intended reader
  • Prioritise information according to the decision expected from the reader
  • Replace jargon with accessible wording without losing accuracy
  • Rewrite long sentences as short and readable statements
  • Use diagrams tables and examples to lighten the text
