Description
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory: Defining the Scope, Calculating and Reducing
Make an emissions inventory reliable and turn it into a reduction plan that is genuinely tracked
- 1 day — 7 h
- In-person or virtual
- Expert
- Up to 6 participants
A first inventory has been produced and nobody can say how much it is worth. Activity data comes from inconsistent sources. The emission factors used are not documented. From one year to the next, variations are explained more by changes in method than by actual reduction measures.
A one-day programme, in-person or virtual, designed for practitioners. You consolidate the definition of the reporting boundary and the collection of activity data. You work on the selection and traceability of emission factors as well as the treatment of uncertainty. You build a quantified reduction plan and a recalculation method that makes reporting years genuinely comparable.
Learning objectives
- Consolidate the definition of the organisational and operational boundary
- Organise the collection of activity data and trace its sources
- Justify the selection of emission factors and document the assumptions made
- Assess uncertainty and prioritise the categories to be made more reliable
- Build a quantified reduction plan and a rule for recalculating the base year
What makes this programme different
Programme
1Defining the Scope and Collecting Data
Boundary, data and sources
- Organisational boundary and choice of consolidation approach
- Direct emissions, indirect energy-related emissions and other indirect emissions
- Organising data collection from internal contributors
- Handling missing data and setting extrapolation rules
2Calculating and Strengthening Reliability
Factors, assumptions and uncertainty
- Selecting emission factors and documenting sources
- Consistency of units and plausibility checks
- Uncertainty analysis and the relative weight of each category
- Methodology note and traceability of calculations
3Reducing Emissions and Steering Over Time
From inventory to action plan
- Identifying levers by category and estimating potential gains
- Costing measures and arbitrating with the departments concerned
- Recalculation rules in the event of a change of boundary or method
- Internal reporting and communication of results
Who is it for
Carbon and energy managers · sustainability officers · consultants and management control professionals involved in the initiative.
Prerequisites
