Description

Virtual Classroom: Preparing the Session, Delivering Remotely and Holding Attention

Three hours to lead a group that takes part, rather than a group listening with cameras off

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

The in-person course has simply been moved in front of a camera. The slide deck scrolls on, cameras stay off, questions are rare and the facilitator talks alone for an hour with no idea who is still following. The prevailing feeling at the end of the session is that remote delivery is no match for the classroom.

These 3 hours take place in the very format they teach. Participants break their content into short units, adapt their materials for on-screen reading, practise the interaction features from the facilitator's seat, then handle the technical incidents that always occur at the worst possible moment.

Learning objectives

  • Break a remote session down into short time units
  • Prepare materials and activities suited to on-screen reading
  • Use interaction features to involve every learner
  • Respond to a technical incident without interrupting the session
