Description
Managing a Training Project: From Needs Analysis to Evaluation
Design a training programme that answers a real need and demonstrates measurable results
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
A training project rarely fails because of its content. It fails because the need was poorly defined, the format did not suit the audience, or the evaluation measured nothing useful.
Five days to master the full chain: needs analysis, specification brief, programme design, delivery management and evaluation, within a recognised quality framework.
Learning objectives
- Analyse a request and translate it into a genuine skills need
- Draft a usable training specification brief
- Design a programme suited to the audience and its constraints
- Manage delivery and relationships with trainers and providers
- Evaluate learning outcomes and the impact of the programme
What makes this programme different
Programme
1Analysing the Request
What is asked for is not always what is needed
- Distinguishing the stated request, the real need and the underlying problem
- Data gathering: interviews, observation, work activity analysis
- Identifying issues that training cannot solve
- Formulating observable skills objectives
2Formalising the Specification Brief
The document that commits everyone
- Structure of a training specification brief
- Objectives, audience, constraints, delivery formats, success criteria
- Budget, schedule and delivery conditions
- Consulting and selecting trainers or external providers
3Designing the Programme
Choose the format before the content
- Learning architecture: sequences, progression, pacing
- Choice of formats: in-person, virtual, asynchronous, on-the-job
- Learning scenario design and course materials
- Accessibility and adjustments for participants with disabilities
4Managing Delivery
From plan to actual rollout
- Logistical and administrative organisation
- Working with trainers: briefing, monitoring, adjustment
- Engaging participants and their line managers
- Handling unforeseen issues during rollout
5Evaluating and Improving
Measuring what matters
- Levels of evaluation: satisfaction, learning, transfer, impact
- Building evaluation tools that produce usable data
- Follow-up evaluation and measuring transfer on the job
- Using results to improve the programme
Who is it for
Learning and development managers and officers, instructional designers, consultants, training provider directors, and trainers involved in designing learning programmes.
