Description

Creative Workshops: Preparing, Facilitating and Turning Ideas into Action

Design and lead creative sessions that produce genuinely usable ideas

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A poorly prepared creative session produces flipchart sheets that end up in a drawer. The topic is too broad, the most confident participants dominate the room, the session closes without any sorting, and nobody knows what will happen to the proposals collected.

Two days to design and facilitate a complete session: framing the question with the sponsor, selecting techniques according to the objective, leading the group including in virtual settings, then sorting and reporting back. Each participant facilitates a sequence in front of the group and receives structured feedback. The programme goes beyond brainstorming and covers several families of techniques.

Learning objectives

  • Frame the request with the sponsor and formulate the opening question
  • Select creative techniques suited to the objective and the group
  • Compose the group and prepare the working space
  • Lead the session while managing behaviours that block output
  • Organise the sorting and selection of ideas with participants
  • Report the results and secure next steps with the sponsor

What makes this programme different

Each participant facilitates a complete sequence and receives feedback from the group
One single topic is addressed using two different techniques and the outputs are then compared
Virtual facilitation variants are practised during the session

Programme

1Framing the request

A clear question is half the result

  • Conducting the interview with the sponsor
  • Reformulating the topic as an open question
  • Setting the expected outcome and the intended use of the ideas
  • Composing the group and choosing the duration

2Idea-generation techniques

Choosing the tool according to the objective

  • Using association-based techniques
  • Practising analogy-based techniques
  • Applying disruption and provocation techniques
  • Combining individual and collective production

3Leading the group

Keeping output flowing without letting the group settle

  • Setting and upholding the session rules
  • Re-energising the group when output runs dry
  • Handling premature criticism and dominant participants
  • Adapting facilitation to a virtual session

4Sorting and reporting back

Turning output into decisions

  • Grouping and clarifying the ideas generated
  • Selecting against criteria announced in advance
  • Enriching the selected ideas before presentation
  • Reporting to the sponsor and securing next steps

Who is it for
