Description
Project Scoping: Clarify the Need, Define the Scope and Launch
Turn a vague request into a project whose scope and deliverables are set down in writing
- 0.43 days — 3 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
A poorly scoped project keeps costing throughout its life. The request arrives already framed as a chosen solution. The scope stays implicit and everyone adds their own expectations to it. The first weeks are spent discovering constraints that should have been stated before launch.
Three hours online to build a usable scoping note. The need is reformulated, then the scope is defined and the deliverables described before the kick-off meeting. The session stops at the effective start of the project and does not cover its subsequent management.
Learning objectives
- Reformulate a request into a verifiable project objective
- Define the scope by writing down what is included and what is excluded
- Describe the expected deliverables and their acceptance criteria
- Identify constraints and major risks from the scoping stage
- Prepare and lead the kick-off meeting
