Description

Setting SMART Objectives: Drafting, Agreeing and Tracking Commitments

Write objectives that can be measured and met, rather than intentions reworded every year

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Objectives too vague to be assessed, targets set without the resources to match, criteria discovered only at the annual review: loose wording always shows up at appraisal time. The employee challenges the measurement and the manager has nothing to justify it with.

Three hours online to write objectives using the SMART method: making the result measurable, testing achievability against available resources, dating the deadlines and preparing the conversation with the employee. The objectives reworked in the session are the participants' own.

Learning objectives

  • Turn a general intention into a measurable objective with a clear deadline
  • Test the achievability of an objective against available resources
  • Define indicators and evidence of achievement before launch
  • Present an objective to an employee and handle their objections

What makes this programme different

Participants' real objectives are rewritten and corrected live
A review checklist is provided and then applied to every wording
Short online format suited to managers newly appointed to a role
