Taking part in an improvement project often means sitting in meetings where people discuss measurements and root causes using tools you have never encountered. Without shared reference points, frontline contributors add little, even though they hold most of the knowledge about the process.

This is a one-day virtual session in a deliberately tight format, distinct from the longer pathway that prepares participants for the full Yellow Belt role. The day covers the sequence of the methodology, how to state a problem using facts and how to build a reliable data collection sheet at the workstation. The stated aim is to contribute usefully to an improvement initiative rather than to lead it.

Reducing variability and waste

  • Position the Yellow Belt role alongside the Green Belt and the Black Belt
  • Walk through the stages of the problem-solving methodology
  • Distinguish an improvement topic from a simple malfunction to be repaired
  • Recognise the projects that genuinely call for the methodology

2Define and Measure

Framing the problem before looking for the solution

  • State a problem with a defined scope and an observed gap
  • Capture the expectations of the internal or external customer of the process
  • Build a data collection sheet that is simple to complete at the workstation
  • Verify that two observers are indeed measuring the same thing

3Analyse and Improve

Contributing usefully to the initiative

  • Group possible causes into families with the working team
  • Distinguish an apparent correlation from a demonstrated cause
  • Propose a solution and test it on a small scale
  • Take part in sustaining the gains once the project has ended

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
