Description

Instructional Design: Structuring Objectives, Storyboarding and Assessment

Turning a competency objective into sequences that genuinely put learners to work

  • 0.29 days — 2 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • All levels
  • Up to 6 participants

Many training courses are still built as a presentation split into chapters. The content is accurate but the learner listens without producing anything and assessment is limited to a final questionnaire. The designer then has no way of verifying that the stated objective has been achieved or of justifying design choices to the sponsor.

These two hours focus on designing learning sequences rather than on building the overall programme architecture covered in training programme design. Writing learning objectives storyboarding selecting active methods and building assessments are all practised on content brought by participants. Each participant leaves with a written learning scenario.

Learning objectives

  • Write learning objectives that are observable and measurable
  • Break content down into progressive sequences
  • Select a learning method suited to each objective
  • Build the activities and materials for a sequence
  • Design assessments aligned with the stated objectives

What makes this programme different

The session focuses on the sequence and leaves overall programme framing to the training programme design module
Each participant storyboards content they will go on to deliver
The activities designed are tested on the group before the end of the session
