Description

Sustainable and Responsible Training Design: Eco-Design, Delivery and Impact Measurement

Reducing the footprint of a training activity without compromising the expected quality of learning

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Training providers are increasingly questioned about their social and environmental responsibility: participant travel, printed materials, equipment renewal, accessibility of learning solutions. Responses often remain declarative, and moving a course online is frequently mistaken for a responsible approach, whereas digital delivery carries a cost of its own.

Three hours to identify the levers genuinely available on a training activity: content design, choice of delivery methods, logistical organisation, accessibility and inclusion. Each lever is assessed against its pedagogical effect, so as to avoid trade-offs that degrade learning.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the impact areas of a training activity
  • Arbitrate between in-person and virtual delivery based on their real effect
  • Eco-design learning materials and resources
  • Embed accessibility and inclusion in the design of the learning solution
  • Select monitoring indicators that can genuinely be used

What makes this programme different

Each lever is assessed on both its impact and its pedagogical effect
A training activity brought by a participant is reviewed end to end
The shift to virtual delivery is examined together with its own environmental cost

Programme

1Where the Impact of a Training Course Lies

Measure before deciding

  • List the impact areas of a training activity
  • Position participant and trainer travel
  • Assess the cost of materials and equipment
  • Take account of the footprint of digital tools

2Designing Differently

Acting on content and delivery methods

  • Eco-design materials and limit how often they are renewed
  • Choose the delivery method according to the learning objective
  • Reduce unproductive time and travel
  • Embed accessibility and inclusion from the design stage

3Embedding the Approach Over Time

Sustaining the commitment beyond the announcement

  • Select monitoring indicators that can genuinely be used
  • Involve trainers and suppliers in the approach
  • Communicate with clients without over-promising
  • Organise the periodic review of practices

Who is it for

Learning and development managers, independent trainers and directors of training organisations.
