Description

Workplace Wellbeing Indicators: Selecting, Measuring and Steering Your Quality-of-Working-Life Programme

Select a small number of workplace wellbeing indicators that trigger decisions rather than produce yet another report

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Many workplace wellbeing initiatives are judged on an annual engagement survey and an absence rate. Such measures arrive too late, lend themselves to every possible interpretation and say nothing about which actions actually had an effect. Project teams then find themselves defending an initiative with no evidence of its value.

This one-day programme focuses on building the measurement system itself. Over seven hours, participants start from the objectives of their initiative to select relevant indicators, organise data collection in line with applicable requirements for employee data, and then build a dashboard that is readable by executive management and by employee representatives alike.

Learning objectives

  • Link every indicator to an explicit objective of the workplace wellbeing initiative
  • Select complementary perception-based and operational indicators
  • Design questionnaires and data collection tools that remain usable over time
  • Organise data collection while protecting anonymity and employee data
  • Interpret results while avoiding premature conclusions
  • Build a dashboard that triggers decisions and trade-offs

What makes this programme different

Each participant leaves with a set of indicators mapped to the objectives of their own initiative
Existing questionnaires brought by the group are reworked question by question
Interpretation pitfalls are demonstrated using real sets of results

Programme

1From objectives to indicators

Measuring what you are actually seeking to achieve

  • Clarifying the objectives pursued by the initiative
  • Dimensions to cover: work content, working relationships and organisation
  • Perception-based indicators and operational indicators
  • Pitfalls of indicators inherited from standard HR reporting
  • A number of indicators that is sustainable over time

2Data collection and method

Producing a measure you can rely on

  • Designing and wording questionnaires
  • Measurement frequency and longitudinal tracking
  • Qualitative data collection: interviews and observation of actual work
  • Anonymity, reporting thresholds and data protection
  • Response rates and representativeness of results

3Analysis, reporting back and steering

Turning measurement into decisions

  • Reading indicators against one another and looking for convergence
  • Distinguishing correlation from causation in people-related results
  • Reporting back to employees and to employee representative bodies
  • Building the dashboard for the initiative
  • Adjusting the action plan on the basis of results
