Description

Deferred Pay and Employee Savings Schemes: Compare, Decide and Explain

Choosing between collective value-sharing schemes based on their true cost and their perceived value

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Value sharing comes back on the table at every compensation review. From a distance, collective schemes all look alike and management teams hesitate over which one genuinely serves employees at a controlled cost. Employees, for their part, understand neither the calculation formula nor the conditions under which the amounts credited to them become available.

One day to distinguish between deferred pay mechanisms, then to compare their cost to the employer and their perceived value for beneficiaries. Participants build a decision grid and prepare the presentation message intended for employees and employee representatives.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish between the main deferred pay and value-sharing schemes
  • Compare the cost to the employer with the net gain for the employee
  • Identify implementation conditions and the stakeholders to involve
  • Build a decision grid suited to the size and results of the organisation
  • Explain how each scheme works to employees

What makes this programme different

A comparison grid is completed scheme by scheme during the session
Cost and net gain simulations are run on the participants' own job profiles
The presentation message for employees is drafted and then tested in front of the group

Programme

1Overview of the Schemes

Positioning each mechanism

  • The logic of deferred pay compared with immediate salary
  • Profit-linked and performance-linked reward schemes
  • Workplace savings plans and employer contributions
  • End-of-service and supplementary retirement arrangements

2Employer Cost and Employee Gain

Compare before deciding

  • Treatment of the amounts paid and their impact on the total reward package
  • Comparison with a salary increase of equivalent cost, for example AED 20,000 per employee
  • Effect on the payroll budget and on cash flow
  • The case of businesses with irregular results

3Implementation and Communication

Agree the scheme, then make it understood

  • Selecting the scheme and drafting the plan rules
  • Role of employee representatives and of the administering providers
  • Calculation formula and allocation criteria
  • Individual statements and the annual review meeting with employees

Who is it for
