Description

Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing: Detect, Trace and Report

Apply customer due diligence obligations and know how to establish suspicion before filing a report

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Anti-money laundering frameworks rely on front-line staff who must assess situations without certainty. In practice alerts pile up, know-your-customer files remain incomplete, and the decision to report or not is often taken without enough traceability to withstand a regulatory inspection.

Two days to embed a working method: understand money laundering schemes, build and apply a risk classification, gather the right information on the customer and the transaction, then document an enhanced review and produce a defensible suspicious transaction report. The work is based on alert situations close to daily practice.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the mechanisms of money laundering and terrorist financing
  • Apply your institution's risk classification when onboarding a customer
  • Collect and update know-your-customer and beneficial ownership information
  • Adjust the level of due diligence to the customer and transaction profile
  • Conduct an enhanced review and record its conclusions
  • Draft a usable suspicious transaction report and maintain confidentiality

What makes this programme different

The alerts handled come from everyday banking situations rather than dramatic scenarios
Each participant drafts a complete suspicious transaction report which is then reviewed as a group
Traceability requirements are addressed from the perspective of what an inspector will come to verify
