Description

Responsible Mortgage Lending: Assessing Affordability, Advising and Documenting

Meeting your information and advisory duties at every stage of a mortgage application

  • 1.5 days — 10.5 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A home loan commits the borrower for many years and commits the lender to a disciplined method: information provided at the right time, a serious affordability assessment, explanations adapted to the client, and a clear record of every exchange. Across branch networks, the gap usually shows up on evidence: the advice was given, but nothing proves it.

This guided self-study programme follows the life of a file: onboarding, analysis of the client's situation, comparison of offers, issuing the offer and post-completion follow-up. It builds on existing lending practice, with particular emphasis on formalisation and on sensitive situations such as refinancing or debt consolidation.

Learning objectives

  • Position the duties of the lender and the intermediary at each stage of the file
  • Assess borrower affordability on the basis of verified information
  • Deliver complete and understandable pre-contractual information
  • Formulate advice tailored to the client's situation
  • Record exchanges and build a file that stands up to scrutiny

What makes this programme different

The programme follows a complete file from first contact through to loan release
Sensitive situations such as debt consolidation and mortgage protection cover are addressed separately
Checkpoints with the trainer validate learning between sequences
