Description

Asset Management: Understanding Roles, Products and Mandates

Knowing who does what inside an asset management firm prevents countless day-to-day misunderstandings

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Joining an asset management firm or a corporate finance function means working within a long and highly specialised chain of roles. Between the portfolio manager, operations monitoring, the custodian and the distributor, each party handles part of a fund's life cycle. Without an overall view, daily exchanges quickly become a string of codes and acronyms.

These two days provide that overall view. You will review the main asset classes, then the types of vehicles and mandates, and follow the path of an order through to net asset value calculation and client reporting.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the parties in the asset management chain and their respective responsibilities
  • Distinguish the main asset classes and their characteristics
  • Differentiate an open-ended fund from a discretionary mandate
  • Describe the life cycle of an order through to settlement
  • Read a fund report and explain its main sections

What makes this programme different

A complete map of the chain of parties, built up throughout the session
