Description

Action Plan Execution: Launching, Tracking Progress and Meeting Committed Deadlines

Move from a written plan to genuine delivery by engaging contributors and addressing variances early

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A well-written action plan guarantees nothing. The launch drags, contributors have competing priorities, review meetings become less frequent and deadlines slip without anyone saying so. The plan turns into a reference document that no one opens again.

Three hours focused entirely on execution: securing contributor commitment, running short progress reviews and dealing with variances before they become impossible to recover. A deliberately practical short format.

Learning objectives

  • Secure an explicit commitment from each contributor at launch
  • Run a short progress review focused on variances
  • Detect drift signals before a deadline is missed
  • Adjust a plan without losing sight of the original objective

What makes this programme different

Work on an action plan genuinely underway in the participant's organisation
A ready-to-use structure for a fifteen-minute progress review
Practical handling of situations where a contributor fails to deliver

Programme

1Getting the launch right

A plan either starts or never starts at all

  • Present the plan by showing what is at stake for each person
  • Secure an explicit commitment on every action
  • Check the genuine availability of contributors
  • Set the first progress review at the launch itself

2Managing by variance

Track what is deviating rather than reviewing everything

  • Select a few clear progress indicators
  • Run a short review focused on blockers
  • Spot early signals of drift
  • Request a progress update without creating heavy-handed control

3Seeing it through

Making trade-offs without abandoning the objective

  • Address an unmet commitment on a factual basis
  • Make trade-offs between schedule, scope and resources
  • Adjust the plan and inform stakeholders
  • Close out by capturing what worked well

Who is it for

Managers and project managers as well as any owner responsible for delivering an action plan that has already been defined.
