Description

Pitching: Capture Attention, Structure Your Case and Win the Decision

Defend an idea, a project or an application in a few minutes before a time-pressed audience

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A committee gives you five minutes. Someone you meet in a corridor gives you two. In these situations the quality of the file is not enough: what is most often missing is a clear governing idea, an audible progression and a request stated without detour.

A full day devoted entirely to construction and rehearsal. Participants work on their own subject and produce three formats of different lengths. Every delivery is reworked in front of the group until a version holds up under real conditions.

Learning objectives

  • State the governing idea of a pitch in a single sentence
  • Build a progression suited to the time available
  • State explicitly the request made to the audience
  • Adjust pace and eye contact while speaking
  • Answer objections without losing the thread of the argument

What makes this programme different

Three formats of different lengths are produced from the same subject
Every delivery is filmed and then reviewed sequence by sequence
The group acts as a committee that interrupts and questions

Programme

1Clarifying the message

Finding the idea you want to leave behind

  • Identify the audience and what it expects
  • State the governing idea in one single sentence
  • Select the two or three arguments that carry weight
  • State the request explicitly

2Building the progression

Giving the pitch an audible architecture

  • Choose an opening that sets out what is at stake
  • Sequence the arguments in a logical order
  • Use an example or a figure taken from your own file
  • Prepare a conclusion that calls for a decision

3Holding the room

Moving from written text to live delivery

  • Place your voice and manage your pace
  • Occupy the space and sustain eye contact
  • Absorb an interruption without being thrown off
  • Answer objections and return to your thread
