Description

Code of Conduct: Drafting, Approval and Monitoring of Application

Draft a code of conduct that stands up before employees and external reviewers alike

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Many codes of conduct read like collections of principles that nobody ever consults. Too general, and they offer no help to an employee facing a client gift or a conflict of interest. Too detailed, and they become unreadable and impossible to keep up to date. The challenge is to meet two competing requirements: enforceability and day-to-day usefulness.

This short format follows the production of the document from the collection of real situations through to its approval and monitoring. You draft sensitive passages and then test their clarity against ambiguous cases. Approval and communication are addressed as a subject in their own right.

Learning objectives

  • Define the intended scope and level of detail of the code of conduct
  • Draft behavioural rules illustrated by concrete situations
  • Align the code with internal workplace rules and existing procedures
  • Organise the approval and communication process for the document
  • Track reported breaches and trigger updates to the text
