Description
IFRS 15: Analysing Contracts, Sequencing Revenue and Handling Complex Cases
Secure revenue recognition on contracts with multiple performance obligations and variable pricing
- 1 day — 7 h
- In-person or virtual
- Expert
- Up to 6 participants
Revenue is the first line analysts look at and the most exposed during audit. Commercial contracts combine bundled services, conditional discounts, successive amendments and penalties: all parameters that shift the timing and the amount of revenue recognised. Accounting teams inherit contracts negotiated without them.
This one-day programme is designed for experienced practitioners. Seven hours cover the IFRS 15 model applied to difficult configurations: identifying performance obligations, allocating the transaction price, variable consideration, transfer of control over time and costs of obtaining a contract.
Learning objectives
- Identify distinct performance obligations within a composite contract
- Allocate the transaction price to obligations on the basis of stand-alone selling prices
- Estimate and constrain variable consideration linked to discounts and penalties
- Determine whether revenue is recognised at a point in time or over time
- Handle contract modifications and amendments during performance
- Account for the costs of obtaining and fulfilling a contract
