Description

Growth Mindset: Identifying Limiting Beliefs, Learning from Mistakes and Reinventing Yourself

Two days to move beyond the idea that ability is fixed and put learning back at the centre of work

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Certain phrases come up again and again: I am simply not built for this, I have never been comfortable with figures, at my age people no longer change. Such convictions close doors before any attempt is made, and they explain applications never submitted and projects quietly abandoned.

This 14-hour programme examines how each participant relates to their own abilities and to learning. Participants identify their limiting beliefs, analyse the way they react to failure and to critical feedback, then put in place a structured learning approach for one skill they wish to acquire.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the beliefs that limit professional initiative
  • Distinguish a temporary difficulty from an assumed permanent inability
  • Analyse a setback in order to draw a usable lesson from it
  • Receive critical feedback without self-disqualification
  • Lead the acquisition of a new skill in structured stages

What makes this programme different

A personal inventory of limiting phrases and their reformulation
One concrete skill selected in session and worked through to a full learning plan
Critical feedback given and received on work produced during the two days

Programme

What we believe is possible for ourselves

  • Inventory of the phrases that shut down action
  • Origins of convictions about personal aptitudes
  • Effects on applications and on taking initiative
  • Difference between an observation and a permanent judgement

2Changing your relationship with mistakes

Failure, learning and progress

  • Analysis of a professional setback without self-blame

  • Turning a setback into a usable lesson

3Making use of feedback from others

Criticism, advice and an outside perspective

  • Receiving critical feedback without immediate justification
  • Separating the point being criticised from the person
  • Requesting targeted feedback from your counterparts
  • Sorting usable feedback from the rest

4Learning a new skill

Method, stages and perseverance
