Agile Project Management: Framing, Iterating and Delivering with Your Team

Lead a project through successive deliveries when requirements take shape as the work progresses

Projects with evolving requirements sit badly with a fixed plan: the specification is out of date before delivery, decisions are escalated too late and the team only discovers disagreements at acceptance testing. Moving to an agile approach without a method often produces the opposite of the intended effect, with more meetings and an uncontrolled scope.

Four days to establish a solid practice: framing the vision and scope, building and refining a backlog, estimating and planning an iteration, facilitating the ceremonies and measuring real progress. Participants run a case-study project across several complete iterations.

2Framing the Project

Vision, scope and priorities

  • Formulate the vision and the expected outcomes
  • Identify the users and how they will use the solution
  • Build a first prioritised scope
  • Set the criteria for deciding between competing requests

3Building the Backlog

Writing what the team will actually deliver

  • Write items centred on real usage
  • Define verifiable acceptance criteria
  • Break down an item that is too large
  • Refine the backlog across iterations
  • Handle requests that arrive mid-course

4Planning and Estimating

Committing to a realistic iteration

  • Estimate in relative terms with the team
  • Determine the capacity of an iteration
  • Build the iteration commitment
  • Handle dependencies between teams

5Facilitating and Measuring

Ceremonies, reviews and continuous improvement

  • Run the daily stand-up without turning it into a status meeting
  • Prepare and hold a review in front of stakeholders
  • Facilitate a retrospective that leads to concrete actions
  • Track progress and iteration indicators

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
