Description

Annual Accounts Closing: Organising, Processing and Securing Entries

Handle the accounting and tax issues of the first closing phase without leaving a single item unresolved

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Year-end closing comes down to a handful of accounts where the difficulties concentrate: cut-off of income and expenses, inventory valuation, impairment, provisions and fixed assets. Every year the same points come back, dealt with under time pressure and documented after the fact, which weakens the company's position in the event of an audit or review.

This first two-day phase addresses the main accounting and tax difficulties encountered before the financial statements and tax return are prepared. The programme follows the actual sequence of closing work and links each account to its corresponding tax treatment. Participants build a structured closing file and a list of control points.

Learning objectives

  • Organise the closing timetable and the closing file
  • Apply the cut-off principle to income and expenses
  • Value inventories and work in progress and justify stock count differences
  • Process fixed assets, depreciation and impairment
  • Assess and record provisions for risks and charges
  • Identify the tax adjustments attached to each account
