Description

Artificial Intelligence and Big Data: Understand, Identify and Govern

Two days to establish what data and artificial intelligence genuinely make possible

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Proposals for tools built on artificial intelligence arrive from every direction and promise gains that are difficult to verify. Company data is scattered and of uneven quality. Without clear reference points, projects start on the strength of an appealing demonstration and stop once the pilot phase ends.

These 14 hours provide the technical and regulatory reading grid. Participants understand what large-scale data is and how a model learns, distinguish the main families of use cases, assess the feasibility of a use case against the data actually available, then identify the risks to be governed before any launch.

Learning objectives

  • Define what distinguishes large-scale data from everyday data
  • Describe how a machine learning model works
  • Distinguish the main families of artificial intelligence use cases
  • Assess the feasibility of a use case against the data available
  • Identify the risks and obligations to be governed in a project

What makes this programme different

Guided demonstrations showing both the successes and the errors of models
An assessment grid for testing the feasibility of a use case
A live sorting exercise separating vendor promises from actual tool capabilities

Programme

1Large-Scale Data and Data Quality

The raw material comes before the models

  • What characterises large-scale data
  • Internal sources and external sources
  • Data quality, completeness and cleansing
  • Data storage and data flows across the organisation

2How a Machine Learns

The principle behind the promises

  • Supervised and unsupervised learning
  • Training, testing and performance measurement
  • Language models and generative artificial intelligence
  • Overfitting and performance decay over time
  • What a model cannot do

3Use Cases and Feasibility

From business need to project

  • Prediction, classification and recommendation use cases
  • Automated processing of text and images
  • Checking the data available for a given use case
  • Assessing expected benefit against project cost
  • Choosing between a market tool and in-house development

4Governing Usage

Deciding with full knowledge of the facts

  • Personal data protection and lawful grounds for processing
  • Bias, discrimination and explainability of decisions
  • Confidentiality of information submitted to external tools
  • The role of human judgement in the final decision
  • Building team awareness and managing change

Who is it for

Marketing managers · project leaders · managers and executives involved in data or artificial intelligence initiatives.
